Marsala - Pantone's Color of the Year for 2015

Marsala-influenced Design from Oriental Weavers

Was I ever surprised when the Pantone Institute announced that Marsala would be its 2015 Color of the Year on December 4th!  With all of the emphasis on blue this year, I was sure it would be a dark blue.

Why Marsala for 2015?

My curiosity got the best of me so I quickly perused the Pantone website. Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman describes Marsala as:

"Marsala enriches our mind, body, and soul exuding confidence and stability.  Marsala is a subtle seductive shade, one that draws us into its embracing warmth".
This stylish hue with  warm red-brown tones will make an appealing statement in fashion, interior design, beauty, and industrial design.

What Paint Company Color Names Match Marsala?

Color Expert, Lori Sawaya of The Land of ,posted this chart showing what colors match Marsala from the different paint companies.  For instance, if you are a fan of Sherwin-Williams, and wanted to use this color in your home, you would use the color  Rembrandt Ruby, SW 0033.  In the picture below, I show it used in a kitchen as an accent wall along with Stone Lion SW 7507 on the opposite wall.

What Colors Are Compatible?

According to Pantone:

" Marsala can be combined with ambers, golden yellows, greens in both turquoise and teals, vibrant blues, as well as the more neutral taupes and grays."

What's your opinion of the new Pantone Color of the Year for 2015?  Will you be using it in your home or as one of your company colors?  What color accessories would you pair with it, if using it as a wall color? Leave me a comment and let me know.
