Welcoming Spaces

Houzz

What does your foyer reveal about your home? Is it inviting and interesting? Have you showcased some of your collectibles, decorative accents, an unusual clock, mirror, a beautiful rug, comfy chair or loveseat, console or buffet table, intriguing artwork? Does it segue into the rest of your home so that there is a nice consistent flow? Depending upon size, entryways are great spaces to introduce your decorative style and tastes.

If your home opens right up into a room and doesn’t afford you foyer space, you can create a small entry way by using a console table to separate the space between the front door area and the room. I did this in my first home in N.J. I used a glass table so as not to make the room look smaller. I also changed the flooring of the entryway area to further define the space. If your foyer area is a long narrow hallway, include some artwork or decorative wall accessories on the wall. An interesting ceiling light fixture would also be a nice touch. Remember the foyer area introduces your guests to your decorative style. It should also be inviting.

Look at some of the following foyers and let me know which one is most appealing to you and why? If you had to create a foyer area in your own home, what did you do? Your photos are welcome.
